What is Swayamprabha Channel? : E-learning Platform Video series-2

      We talked about swayam platform. Anybody can
access through mobile or internet website. But what about that part of India
where there are net connectivity issues. Those who do not have smart phones
with data they can access the swayam videos and other video content in the form
of tv channels free of cost and its DTH ( Direct to home) service. Any one with
Doordarshan Free DTH service can have free access to these 32 educational
channels.

So it’s a group of 32 educational channels. It
is an extended version of Gyandarshan which we have been watching since our
childhood.

When was it launched?
It was launched along with SWAYAM portal on 9th
July 2017 by then President of India Shri PranabMukharjee.

What is Swayamprabha?
It is an initiative by MHRD.
It was launched as part of NMEICT project and
digital India initiative.
The National Mission on Education through
Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT) is a Centrally
Sponsored Scheme to use the potential of ICT, in teaching and learning process.

What is the main aim?
To bridge gap in quality of education and
language of delivery between rural and urban

Students in urban schools
get many excess compared to students in rural schools. ... Students in rural
areas less exposed to the outside world and also lack of knowledge about the
currents issues that happen.
According to a survey report
called the Annual Status of Education Report (ASER), more than 50% of the
students in 5th standard attending rural schools are not capable of reading a
second standard textbook and do not to solve basic mathematical questions.
There are issue of books,
material, regularity and quality in teaching, students have to work for earning
and many more.

Who will manage Channels?
BISAG
Bhaskaracharya Institute for
Space Applications and Geoinformatics is a State level agency by Government of
Gujarat to facilitate to provide services and solutions in implementing
map-based GeoSpatial Information Systems.

BISAG (Gandhinagar) telecast
high-quality educational programmes on 24X7 basis using the GSAT-15 satellite.
It’s an ISRO satellite.  Department of
space has allocated two transpoders.

ECIL
Electronics Corporation of India
Limited will provide necessary infrastructure for the recording and editing
programs and creating tv programs in telecast format with the coordination of
BISAG. They set up up-linking stations.

INFLIBNET
INFLIBNET Centre is an autonomous
Inter-University Centre of the University Grants Commission of India under
Ministry of HRD located in Gandhinagar, Gujarat.

It will maintain the webportal of
swayamprabha. It set up timetable and save the video in the archives on web
portal.

Who will prepare the content?

The contents are provided by
NPTEL, IITs, UGC, CEC, IGNOU, NCERT and NIOS.
We have discussed all these institutions
in swayam so no repeat.  Each content
provider is allotted channels. The list is available on its portal.

IIT Madras, Bombay, Delhi,
Kharagpur, Kanpur and Gauhatihave the live transmission facilities for 20
classrooms. They will help content providers to create video lessons and
transform in appropriate format for transmission on satellite.

channels and its content

Subject Matter Expert Group: Teachers and
experts who create content
What is covered?

The DTH Channels shall cover
the following:
  • a). Higher Education: Curriculum-based course
    contents at post-graduate and under-graduate level covering diverse
    disciplines such as arts, science, commerce, performing arts, social
    sciences and humanities, engineering, technology, law, medicine,
    agriculture, etc. All courses would be certification-ready in their
    detailed offering through SWAYAM, the platform being developed for
    offering MOOCs courses.

  • b). School education (9-12 levels): modules for
    teacher's training as well as teaching and learning aids for children of
    India to help them understand the subjects better and also help them in
    preparing for competitive examinations for admissions to professional
    degree programmes.
  • c). Curriculum-based courses that can meet the needs
    of life-long learners of Indian citizens in India and abroad.
  • d). Assist students (class 11th & 12th) prepare
    for competitive exams.


Telecast timetable

Every day, there will be new
content for at least (4) hours which would be repeated 5 more times in a day,
allowing the students to choose the time of their convenience.

Thus students from remote area
with no interconnectivity can also get benefited from expert and best teachers
of our country and learn at home. Its totally free. You just need a DTH antenna
and a set top box and setup the channels. 
Currently  Doordarhsan as well as TATA sky and AIRTEL
private dth service providers are telecasting these channels.
